What was studied
A small United Kingdom study using 18 interviews and 20 questionnaires, with four people contributing to both.
What it contributes
Retrospective accounts show that musical involvement changes over time and that leaving one group need not end a person’s musical life.
Where the evidence stops
The findings do not estimate how common each pathway is. Selected profiles overlap with the related 2015 study, so the publications must not be counted as independent cohorts.

Selected life-history profiles and interpretations recur across these publications. The later work adds analysis rather than an entirely independent set of participant experiences.
