Community Bands
A place to understand community bands.
CommunityBands.net brings research on lifelong music making into one readable, growing collection.
From participation to public life.
Community bands raise questions about learning, friendship, identity, access, wellbeing and the place of music in civic life. This project connects those questions with source records that readers can follow and assess.
The collection begins with the research currently available to the project. It includes international community band studies, related music and arts research, and selected historical context. Its research focus extends beyond Oklahoma.
For curious musicians and careful readers.
Players, conductors, organizers, educators and researchers can start with a topic or search for a particular author, setting or method. Each note identifies what the work contributes and where its evidence stops.
A growing part of a wider project.
Community Bands sits alongside Oklahoma Musicians, Oklahoma Bands, Oklahoma Band History and Play Again Oklahoma. Together, these projects connect musical people, organizations, history and opportunities to play.
This site’s role is to make research easier to explore and to revise as new material arrives. Local histories and present-day opportunities can be explored through the related projects.
Help the collection grow.
