- Review extent

What was studied
A dissertation survey of 1,725 musicians in 74 Association of Concert Bands ensembles.
What it contributes
Musical enjoyment, leadership, repertoire and civic pride appear in members’ accounts of participation.
Where the evidence stops
The frame favors active, often experienced and educated players. Length of membership is not a dropout rate, and the survey cannot explain the experiences of people outside these bands.
About this review
This is a targeted review of selected sections. The record should not be read as an appraisal of the entire work.
