What was studied
A cross-sectional case-control study in Switzerland involving 99 high-brass players and 48 non-wind musicians from more than 25 orchestras.
What it contributes
The main lung-function and symptom comparisons did not differ significantly. Playing duration had an adjusted association with one measure, within normal values.
Where the evidence stops
Groups were not demographically matched. The duration association does not demonstrate decline or disease caused by playing, and the study does not support a claim of improved lung capacity.
